There is Kudaka Island that is 8km away from the offing of Nanjyo city, South area of the main island of Okinawa.Around 260 years ago, it has roots in dye goods that female attendants had made in Ryukyu Dynasty’s era.Shiroma family had gotten engaged in dye goods’ industry from the era. These days, Eichi Shiroma(Shiroma family of the 16th) takes over the tradition and the art. Mr. Shiroma said that his rules are human cultivation in order to preserve the culture and devolution so as to come to understand easily for people all over the world.
The method of making “Bingata” has been taken over in the way of not being efficient but being unvarying handmade.Therefore, “Bingata” reflects the handmade hearts of Okinawa.
He would like you to feel the excellence of the traditional arts of dye goods from the small island, through “Bingata”.
