Mangroves are only found in tropical and subtropical brackish waters where marine and river waters mix. Take a leisurely cruise on a sightseeing boat along Nakama River on Iriomote Island, home to Japan’s largest mangrove forest. The length of Nakama River has been designated a national natural monument. See the largest looking-glass mangrove (Heritiera littoralis) in Japan and the rare mangrove apple (Sonneratia alba).
